London Fashion Week 2013

My name is Lisa Bates and I am Senior Stylist at The Vinery Hair Salon in Huddersfield and also a member of the Sebastian Cult Team!

Being a part of the Sebastian Cult Team has thrown up an incredible amount of opportunities to work alongside some serious talent in the world of hairdressing and well as being able to really show off my artistic flair!

I have been involved in some really exciting projects over the past 12 months including styling Danielle Haim's hair for the Chime for Change Concert, working the David Bowie-inspired photoshoot for Hairdressers Journal and also London Fashion Week during February and September 2013 for high profile designers Jayne Pierson, Bas Kosters, Haizen Wang and Martina Spetlova.

I have a packed schedule over the next couple of months too as The Sebastian Cult Team work continues. We have the upcoming Cult Team Hair Show at the Wella TrendVision Final at Camden Roundhouse on 7th October, we are showcasing work at Salon International on the Clubstar Fellowship Stage with Vinery Colleague Gemma Noon and also a Spotlight event at the end of October at the London Wella Studios.

So watch this space for updates and photos from these exciting events!

Clubstar Fellowship Art Team Update

I'm Gemma Noon, Senior Stylist at The Vinery and I recently entered a competition to win a coveted place on the British Hairdressing Clubstar Fellowship Art Team - and I was one of 6 people to win a place!

Last week I had my first session with my fellow Art Team members in London which was really exciting. I had a great time meeting everyone and getting to know them as we will all be working very closely with each other over the next twelve months.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share our inspirations, fashion 'loves' and bounce ideas around - getting feedback from the rest of the Art Team and sharing stories was a great way to bond and to also gain an insight into everybody's 'working' styles and what makes each one of us tick on a creative level!

My next session with the Clubstar Fellowship involves a stage appearance at Salon International London in October 2013, showcasing my artistic interpretations to the masses - I have to admit I'm a bit nervous but I am sure I can pull it off with ease! Keep an eye out for my next Art Team update and pictures from my stage debut!

Wella Colour Training with Wendy Crofts

Every couple of months we have Wella training in-house with Colour Expert & Educator Wendy Crofts. To this she brings a wealth of knowledge and years of education training, which combine to give us the most up-to-date colour techniques and this time was no exception. With a mass of blonde models at our disposal we created, corrected and inspired some fantastic colour choices, all culminating in a bespoke Autumn/Winter Blonde Collection, which any stylist would be proud of.

We managed to find a fantastic variation of hair lengths and model ages, with an array of colours at the forefront of it all.

Here’s a bit about some of the models, to give you an idea of the processes involved:

Charlie (Senior Stylist) and Matthew (Senior Assistant) paired up to create a subtle look for model Charlotte, working with panelling colour in foil packets to contrast against a slightly deeper base. The panels were taken to a light blonde whilst putting a rich and warm deep mink hue to the rest of the hair, with the panelling falling across the face to soften the features.

Taking on the task of completely transforming model Tasha from a striking white blonde with a darker sub section, to a block copper tone was no mean feat, but Jonathan (Stylist) managed to pull it off to soften her features and bring out the sea green of her stunning eyes. After 6 years of being so blonde, it was a big decision on the part of Tasha, but the results were phenomenal.

Vibrant tones through blonde hair are seen on all the major high streets around the country. This was something that Angie (Senior Stylist) wanted to emulate with Jodie, with a rose blonde toner over a new oil-based cream bleach, that is much kinder to the hair.

The Vinery Hair Salon hosted our Annual 3rd Summer Party last weekend at Cellar 88 in Holmfirth and we were delighted to see so many of our clients and friends there enjoying the live music provided by up-and-coming local band The White Wolves!

Usually The Vinery Summer Party takes place in our sumptuous outdoor garden area however due to the limitations of the good old British weather we had to quickly change venue -  and thanks must go out to the generous Kayti Naylor for the use of her lovely Bistro Wine Bar, Cellar 88 which we took over in force!

Good company, good music and good wine was the order of the evening and we certainly enjoyed ourselves although I suspect many were nursing terrible hangovers the next morning!
